What's Included in a Penn Yan Aero Overhaul

Every Penn Yan Aero overhaul is completed with attention to component condition, fit, balance, compliance, and final performance. Standard overhaul practices include:

  • Built to manufacturer new-engine fits and tolerances as a minimum standard
  • Crankshaft and complete rotating assembly dynamically spin-balanced
  • Weight-matched pistons, rings, wrist pins, and connecting rods
  • New bearings, bushings, seals, O-rings, and gaskets throughout the engine
  • Crankcase, crankshaft, connecting rods, gears, and major components inspected and reconditioned using approved processes
  • New ignition harness and spark plugs
  • New or overhauled certified magnetos or approved ignition components as applicable
  • Fuel system components overhauled or serviced as applicable
  • Oil pump inspected, reconditioned, or replaced as required
  • Compliance with applicable FAA Airworthiness Directives and manufacturer service requirements
  • Minimum 100-minute test-cell run, including a 30-minute full-power test
  • Final post-run inspection before release
  • Complete overhaul documentation and component traceability

The Penn Yan Aero Difference

Not all engine overhauls are created equal. Dimensional compliance is essential, but it does not always reveal surface deterioration, abnormal wear patterns, corrosion, fatigue indications, or other conditions that may affect long-term reliability.

At Penn Yan Aero, component selection and reconditioning decisions are guided by more than specifications alone. They are supported by decades of real-world experience with owner-flown, fleet, utility, training, commercial, and specialty aircraft.

The result is a smoother-running engine with precision, tested under controlled conditions, documented thoroughly, and supported by a team that understands both the engine and the aircraft it powers.

Information Needed for a Quote

To quote your overhaul, Penn Yan Aero will typically need:

  • Aircraft make, model, serial number, and registration
  • Current engine model and serial number
  • Engine time and logbook history
  • Work needed: overhaul, exchange, outright purchase, repair quote, or sudden-stop inspection
  • Accessory, fuel system, ignition, propeller, and governor details
  • Paint, cylinder, and magneto preferences where applicable
  • Any STCs or prior engine modifications
  • Any known service issues or installation concerns

Penn Yan Aero will review your engine and aircraft details to confirm the correct configuration, required accessories, current lead time, and overhaul options.

Prices assume your crankshaft and crankcase are repairable. If not, repair or replacement will be quoted separately and based on availability.
