Every Penn Yan Aero overhauled engine benefits from our precision dynamic balancing process. Unlike conventional overhaul practices, we dynamically balance the crankshaft and rotating assembly, including the ring gear support, while carefully weight-matching connecting rods and pistons. This attention to detail helps minimize internal engine vibration, reduce unnecessary stress on critical components, and promote smoother, more reliable operation. Combined with proper propeller balancing, our process helps deliver the smooth-running, long-lasting Lycoming and Continental engines that have made Penn Yan Aero a trusted name in aviation since 1945. .
All pistons are weighed and grouped by the same weight down to the gram.
Connecting Rods are all weighed down to the same gram for a balanced connecting point from the crankshaft to the piston
The ring gear support is spin balanced mounted to the crankshaft. Just like your tires being balanced to prevent vibration, the crankshaft and ring gear support are spun to balance by removing weight at a computer selected point.
Every crankshaft and ring gear support assembly are spun at engine RPM and computer balanced so no vibration prematurely wears or effects the life of the engine or airframe introducing stress or frequencies reducing the life and satisfaction in the overhaul.
