Arrival at Penn Yan Aero

When your engine arrives at Penn Yan Aero it’s logged in against its work order,
digitally photographed, and inventoried.

Complete Disassembly

Engines are stripped and completely disassembled, right down to individual
nuts, bolts, and washers. Replacement parts are either discarded or returned,
according to the owner’s instructions.

Bare Metal

Clean Engine parts are stripped to bare metal and thoroughly cleaned. Penn
Yan Aero uses many different types of green cleaning technologies, all of them
environmentally responsible.

Intensive Inspections

Penn Yan Aero uses many types of measurement and inspection technologies
including air gages, Zyglo and other penetrant dyes, lasers, dial indicators,
digital scales, micrometers, and good old fashioned eyeballs.

Proprietary Improvements

Penn Yan Aero has FAA Approved and certified procedures that actually allow
Penn Yan Aero to improve engines through its overhaul process.

In-House “Shops”

Quality and synchronicity are managed at Penn Yan Aero with in-house “shops”
such as a case shop, cylinder shop, accessory shop, fuel shop, machine shop,
and paint shop. Each internal shop is staffed by trained specialists.

Parts Checked & Matched

All parts are checked, including new parts. Only the best parts are used in a
Penn Yan Aero overhaul. Parts that work in sets are matched, prepared, and
staged for assembly.

Dynamically Balanced

Penn Yan Aero overhauled engines are dynamically balanced to within 0.20 ounce/inch
grams of the OEM's new engine specification. This results in a smoother running, longer lasting engine.

New, Zero-Time

Engines are precisely assembled to model specific, OEM new, zero-time fits
and tolerances according to the OEM Factory Overhaul Manual Table of Limits.

Digital Test Cells

Comprehensive testing allows Penn Yan Aero to accurately simulate flight
conditions, collect and evaluate engine performance data, and predict
long-term engine life. No engine leaves Penn Yan Aero without first proving itself.

Pack and Wrap

After testing, engines are thoroughly inspected, paperwork reviewed, and all
return  materials are gathered. The engine is mounted on a crate and wrapped
in preparation for shipping.

Ready to Go!

After inspection, disassembly, more inspection, overhaul & repair, parts matching,
meticulous assembly, even more inspection, checking, double checking, balancing,
finishing, dressing, proof testing, and final inspection, your engine is wrapped,
crated, and shipped back to you for installation.
