Penn Yan Aero: The Power of Experience

About Us

Harold “The Eagle” Middlebrook was born in 1917 in Middlesex, New York. He immediately fell in love with airplanes and flying. He acquired his first aircraft, an EMSCO, while still in his late teens. Harold proved to be very good at making airplanes run well and fly right. When World War II occurred, Harold became a Primary Flight Instructor for the United States Army Air Forces, teaching new pilots to fly Stearmans.

After the War, in 1945, Harold went to nearby Penn Yan, New York and started Penn Yan Aeronautical Service at the airport. Harold focused his business on the repair and maintenance of small aircraft. Praise of his talent quickly spread and before he knew it he had developed a thriving regional shop. In the mid 1960s, Harold’s son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Pat took over the business and focused it’s specialty on engines. It was at this time that Penn Yan Aero became an Authorized Lycoming and Teledyne Continental Motors Distributor. The business continued to grow as “The Engine People” at Penn Yan Aero turned out a fantastic engine overhaul.

Today, Penn Yan Aero is still located at the airport and has incorporated the original hanger build by Harold Middlebrook into its complex. Harold’s grandson, Daryl and Pat’s son, Bill, is the third generation Middlebrook to own and operate Penn Yan Aero. Penn Yan Aero is a world class engine facility servicing hundreds of engine models used in thousands of aircraft models. Penn Yan Aero has sales in every State of the Union and around the world. Thousands of Lycoming and Continental engines have passed through Penn Yan Aero’s facility.

It is with great pride that we point to our near 65 year history in aviation, and equal pride that we acknowledge the long personal histories that our co-employees have at Penn Yan Aero. Collectively we have a considerable history of building knowledge based on our experience with the engines and their applications operating in all kinds of different environments. The Power of Experience.

Penn Yan Aero continues to build business based on the same guiding principals of honesty and integrity that Harold and Daryl and Pat used. It is our long shared history that allows all of us at Penn Yan Aero to take great pride in consistently delivering high quality, high value Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines. All of us at Penn Yan Aero are committed to earning your trust and satisfying your requirements.
